Primary School Readiness Program:

Before children even start learning letter names and sounds, they begin developing their listening skills so that they are tuned into the different sounds in words. Being able to listen to and identify sounds is crucial in speech awareness and helps children advance their oral comprehension.

Turn off the tap

Letters of the alphabet are introduced and children learn one sound for each letter. At that point, they can sound out and read simple, short words like ‘c-a-t, cat’ and ‘s-u-n, sun.’ Next, children learn that some letters make different sounds when you put them together.  At this stage children may still be using simplified names for letters, however, this is something they will advance beyond as their understanding of sounds progresses.

Replace the light bulbs

Once they’ve learned to read words with the most common letter-sound combinations, children move on to learn lots of alternative combinations. They start to practicing reading increasingly complex words. By the time they finish, the majority of children will be able to read pretty much all familiar English words.

If you are using tabs to display restaurant items write about what makes a specific dish particularly worthwhile or delicious.

This is the deepest level and is recursive.  We used everything the child has learned to continue to develop reading, writing, spelling, grammar and listening skills as well as using elevated, more complicated vocabulary to express thoughts and ideas.  At this level, children are also extremely confident with their reading and reading comprehension.  They are able to easily read lengthy texts and identify the main ideas, story lines and relevant details of the text.

Phonics though Grade 4:

When it comes to helping children with reading, language development, pronunciation and vocabulary growth, a strong phonics program is one of the most effective methods out there. Children studying in Spark’s phonics program learn to read by matching written and spoken sounds, which gives them a huge boost towards making sense of written texts.

The Spark Phonics Program is all about the process of linking sounds to the symbols that represent them. Our phonics program gradually introduces children to different sound-symbols, and the alternative alternative sounds and spellings.

As pupils learn new sounds and parts of words through phonics, they’ll become able to decode words that they might not have encountered before. Being able to decode words is a critically important skill that will help children to gain fluency and improve all aspects of their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. By the time they are fluent readers, this process is automatic!

Math:

Our core math programs are grounded in research on educational practices that produce meaningful learning gains for all students—from those facing the greatest barriers to those achieving at the highest levels. The Spark ALC curriculum connects abstract concepts with students’ everyday realities in ways that are powerfully engaging, motivating, and effective.

Our adaptive approach to math is designed to meet the student where they are and support mathematics instruction with an engaging and effective techniques. Our process begins with teacher-led instruction and includes interactive and collaborative learning experiences to engage students with mathematics concepts. All of our curriculum is certified by the Council of Chief State School Officers (United States) and the Texas Education Agency.

Our math classes are organized into four component activities:

  1. Visualization: Using animations / visualizations to introduce new concepts.
  2. Exploration: Using hands-on activities to provide core instruction in the context of real-world problems including interactive simulations allow students to manipulate variables, make predictions, and analyze data. Instruction incorporates multiple representations of math concepts and provides opportunities for students to communicate their thinking in written and spoken formats.
  3. Review & Discussion: We reinforce key concepts and vocabulary in small group and one-on-one.
  4. Actualization & Practice: Using key knowledge obtained to demonstrate though practice, understanding and topic comprehension.

Our resources and problem sets that aligned to national and international standards and we provide extensive hands-on support for students.

Science:

Spark ALC provides science courses that support instruction in remediation, self-paced, and tutorial/supplemental programs. Our program is based on years of experience and utilizes the curriculum offered only to US-based students.

Our adaptive approach to science is designed to meet the student where they are and support instruction with an engaging and effective techniques. All of our curriculum is certified by the Council of Chief State School Officers (United States) and the Texas Education Agency.

Each component of our curriculum is presented in lessons that provide direct instruction by leading field experts and educators with accompanying lectures of key concepts. Our instruction methodology includes multiple examples as well as guided and independent practice.

Our practice problem sets provide “critical mistakes” feedback that demonstrates why an answer is or is not correct and individualizes remediation and re-teaching. Our teachers provide opportunities for students to write, discuss and participate in science!

Further, with our depth of Science knowledge we are able to provide authentic science experiments that link directly back to the students individual learning goals.

Language Art:

Modern-day Language Arts teaching has come to take the place of rigid, cut-and-dried lessons that are fast becoming a thing of the past and they are BORING. There is no single textbook or curriculum that can meet every students unique requirements in full.  Further, the current approach to teaching language arts (and English) is to choose a certain textbook and go through it module-by-module. We disagree, at Spark ALC we believe it is unthinkable to proceed with this outdated approach. We not only to customize the course but to customize ALL the lessons of the course (each and every one of them) to make them relevant and true to life - and more importantly, to YOUR CHILD.  Yes, it is a LOT of work. However, these tailor-made classes produce a child that has of continuous self-development, critical thinking and the joy of learning.

Our core principles for Language Arts includes customization to whatever is customizable:

  • When & where the lesson takes place and how long it lasts, whether it’s online or offline
  • Range of topics (technologies, books, films, hobbies, education, etc.)
  • Set of skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing)
  • Vocabulary and grammar (based on the student’s needs and first language)
  • Home assignments (or not!)
  • Small talk topics (that occur within every lesson at the beginning and end)
  • We even customize mistake corrections!

Our approach changes the face of teaching and more importantly the students learning experience by partnering with the student and the parent to achieve specific outcomes, NOT JUST TEST RESULTS.

Our teachers go to great lengths to understand, know and tailor each child’s program. We know our students very well and take pride that they are SPECIAL with UNIQUE interests.  Our program uses their likes, hobbies, interests and desires to keep your child engaged and craving the experience and knowledge gained through a positive learning environment.
