What are the benefits of studying at Spark ALC?
The Spark learning approach has come - reimagining and redefining the stale form of student education. Traditional education typically includes many hours seated in enclosed rooms with monotonous teachers, teaching AT the child. This approach often removes critical thinking and assumes that the child is to be filled with knowledge versus “sparking” the child’s natural desire to learn, solve problems, be creative and enjoy the journey of educating and bettering themselves.
Spark learning stimulates engagement, improves learning outcomes, engages critical thinking and deeply enriches students. Here are just four benefits of Spark learning and how it can transform your child:
- Tailored, flexible and adaptable: With the world changing so quickly it is nearly impossible for traditional schools to keep up. The Spark approach helps students learn new skills and abilities in a way that allows them to pivot directions when any particular situation demands it.
- Focuses on continuous growth and learning: Sparks curriculum and learning methodology is all about cultivating a growth mindset and flexible thinking. We want to instil in our children that they can learn new things, rediscover a fresh perspective to view and problem-solve. Instead of focusing on accumulating knowledge, the focus is on building tools and skills to adapt and learn.
- Increases curiosity and motivation to continually seek new knowledge all the time. When we instill this behaviour and culture in our child from young, this becomes their habit and muscle memory that they take with them in their learning journey. It doesn’t matter where they are or they will be; this is a tool that they can tap into, for the rest of their lives.
- Builds courage to try (and make mistakes): Sparks methodology includes 3 main components: Potential to Learn, Motivation to Learn, and Adaptability to Learn. These components impart in our children crucial soft skills that can be utilized across their lives. Part of learning includes making mistakes —having a room, and safe space is essential to continuously encourage our child to learn. We want to impart in them the courage to try, explore, and be okay with making mistakes along the way.

What does a typical day look like?
The student’s schedule is entirely up to the parent and student! Each child is given their own custom learning program with their learning objectives. Aligned with that is the child’s schedule. In coordination with the parent(s), we work on a schedule that is optimized to take advantage of when your child learns best. Need more sleep in the morning? No problem, we can arrange classes in the afternoon. Have a early riser? No worries - we have teachers available and ready to teach daily from 7AM to 9PM. We want to ensure that each student is learning at their optimal time.
Once a time is selected for learning, students typically come in for 2-4 hours 3-7 days a week. That time is dedicated to learning and is driven by the child to accomplish their backlog of learning tasks. Each day, the child directs the activities based on the IEP (individualized education plan). Our teachers are well trained and prepared to teach each subject at any time. For specialization topics (e.g., calculus, chemistry, IELTS, etc), the teachers are coordinated with the students schedule to be available for lessons, assistance or deep exploration opportunities during the time the student is on-site.
Spark’s school year is divided into 4 trimesters (3 month increments). We provide year round school and YOU DETERMINE your holidays, breaks, and time-off. Spark is closed for Vietnamese mandated government holidays as per regulations. Spark provides various holiday camps for students.

What is the registration process?
We are a small, specialized school and the culture we have build around continuous learning and self-direction is critically important to us. As a result, prospective students are evaluated in three areas:
- Behavioral readiness
- Social-Emotional readiness
- Academic readiness
The process includes face-to-face interviews with administrative and teaching staff, one-on-one interview with the prospective student, transcript/academic review of previous school performance, and sociological testing with our in-house expert.
Upon completion of the intake process, parents are provided a comprehensive student report of strengths and areas of growth. The results of the intake process are the foundation upon which the students IEP (individualized learning plan) is created in partnership with parents and the student.
